Meinl's CL3RW claves are made of African sequoia, with the CL3 models being the largest of Meinl's claves. Thanks to their size and the high density of the wood, these claves have a low-pitched tone, while keeping the familiar dry, cutting sound when you strike them together. As you can tell by their size, these two claves are not identical. The smaller one is simply a smooth stick, whereas the larger clave is hollowed out and has an indentation. By placing the larger clave face down in your hand you create a larger sound chamber. This results in a deep tone that comes close to the sound of a woodblock when you strike it with the smaller clave.
